5 SIMPLE AND FUN WAYS TO STAY FIT WITHOUT GOING TO THE GYM

As a student, I know that the last thing on your mind and in your monthly budget is a gym subscription. But at the same time, the pressure is getting wesser! You open Instagram or TikTok, and the first thing that comes up on your fyp is that your high school mate with your dream body, taking a mirror selfie in the gym.

Well, what if I told you that there are other simple and fun ways to stay fit without going to the gym? Follow me:
1. Go the Israelite way:
You see that class that you have in that lecture theatre that is almost 30 minutes from your hostel, leg it! Resist the urge to climb Okada or hitch a ride with that your classmate that has a car. After all, na you dey find Kylie Jenner/ The Rock-body. Plus, walking helps clear your head, especially after a long day, so it’s a win-win.

2. Dance It Out:
You want to be fit, but you’re looking for 30k for gym subscription? You’re not ready! Connect your boom box, open Spotify and gbe body eh. Whether it’s Afrobeats, pop, gospel or whatever makes you happy, 20–30 minutes of dancing can rival a treadmill session. Yes, I said what I said!
Who says you can’t Shake it to the max and glow them glutes while you’re at it? But you’ve to remember that consistency is key!

3. Try Bodyweight Exercises:
There are so many exercises you can do in your corner, in the hostel that don’t require any machines, but na you dey find gym. Push-ups, squats, planks, and lunges would literally get you your dream body. It might be slower compared to a person who goes to a gym, but trust me, slowly but surely, you’ll see your gains.

4. Make Waiting Time Active Time:
You’re standing in a queue at an ATM point? Sharpally run one or two stretching (if you’re not shy, you can even do some squats). You’re waiting for your food to done? Run some calf raises, squats, or simple stretches. It may look funny, but it’s better than scrolling endlessly on your phone.

5. Play a Sport You Enjoy:
At least, if gym is too costly for you, you’ll play ball and have fun while at it! Football, volleyball, table tennis, basketball, sprinting, and even swimming counts, as long as it gets you moving. If you’re not into sports, even a casual weekend walk with friends works.

6. Eat healthy:
You want to be fit, yet you're buying as e dey hot every morning for breakfast, Maltina and meat pie for lunch, and for dinner, you just go natural and drink garri. Well-done! You'll have to discipline yourself and start eating actual food that's healthy (include fruits into your daily diet), if not, nothing for you!

7 Jump ropes:
You badly want to feel like a gym girlie or a gym bro? buy a jump rope (skipping rope) and skip every day. I bet you didn't know that jumping for at least 10- 20 minutes every day can be more effective than all those weights you see them lifting, when it comes to losing weight and staying fit.
