BEST SPOTS ON OAU CAMPUS FOR STUDYING

As random as this is, you’d be surprised at how many students on campus still don’t know that there are several amazing places on OAU campus to read, other than their rooms. It is important, however, that you know that the various spots on campus to read have different characteristics. In the sense that there’s a place for group discussions, for gisting, for sleeping, and even for other “things”, and some places are a combination of everything. IYKYK.

So, without further ado, let’s get right into the list of the best spots on OAU campus for studying:
1. Basements:
The basements in question are those of the faculties of Law, Administration, Social Sciences and Education. These basements are usually the perfect spot for overnight reading and group discussions. However, you would definitely want to take a sweater or any warm clothes along because they’re open spaces, which makes them automatically prone to mosquitoes and cold. Also, please try not to sleep off because there’s usually a rapture of devices, many a times.

2. Lecture theatres:
Now this one is very tricky because any lecture theatre can be a studying place, however, most of them are usually locked at night, so that leaves only a few of them for the thousands of students who want to make use of them, so, yes, they’re almost always full. Some of them include Health Sciences Lecture Theatre (HSLT), Oduduwa Lecture Theatre (ODLT), First Bank Lecture Theatre (FBLT), ICAN LT, Admin Extension, Aud i/ii LT, One Thousand-Seater Lecture Theatre (1K LT)- but it’s mostly only accessible during exam period, etc.
Like I stated above, each of these LT’s have their characteristics, but that would be a story for another day.

3. Halls of residence:
Every hostel on OAU campus has a common room where you can read, so they count as spots for reading. But there are some that have a reputation for being the best spots on campus. They include Awolowo Hall Cafeteria (Awo Caf), Fajuyi Hall Cafeteria (Faj Caf). To gain access to these ones you might not necessarily have to be a resident, but for the other halls, you have to be an occupant of the hall to access them.

4. Department of Architecture:
It is popularly called “Archi”, and this one is for the “big boys”. Right in front of the entrance door of their studio, there are signs that read that it is out of bound to non-architecture students. But if you have some form of connection, then you can by all means read there, and trust me, it’s always a vibe there. I’m talking music, good aura (whether it’s play you want or book, you’ll find it there), and really great people too.

5. Motion ground:
Although this is a very controversial one, it goes without saying that it is a very cool spot on campus to study, especially at night. Except that it comes with a side dish of small distraction from the Dramatic Arts students practicing their dance routines, and some other ‘surprises’ (IYKYK) that won’t fail to surprise you. Other than that, it has everything you’ll be needing to study- cool breeze, beautiful sight and scenery and places to sit.

There are several other places, but you’ll have to request for them before I ‘cast’ them. You’re welcome!
