NEW YEAR; NEW YOU?

Almost everyone had a mantra for the new year. ‘My year of this’, ‘My year of that’ etc. but come closer if yours was ‘New Year, New me’ and say “yo yo yo, I’m kidding” (just kidding). But on a more serious note, you and I know there is no ‘New you’ anywhere, especially when you’re still doing the same things you did in your yester years.

But not to worry, here’s all you need, to be well on your way to achieving your “new you” for the remaining part of 2025:
1. Change your ways:
“New year, new you” with that your stinking behavior? Precious, you must be joking. You’re always the victim in every instance, you never apologize for anything, you lack basic courtesy and a good moral standing; yet you have brought those bad habits into 2025 and you’re deafing everyone with “new year new me”? Common!

2. Prioritize your mental health:
Only you, first born/ last born (no disrespect to the middle kids though), breadwinner, Nigerian student, entrepreneur, understanding girlfriend/boyfriend, class rep etc. and you say you’ll be the best version of yourself this year, combining all these? Weldone, President General among the nations.

3. Focus on self-development:
You survived 2024 with zero soft skills, no extra-curricular activities or certifications, an embarrassing account balance, and no investment to show for it, and you’re smiling? What is funny? Add value to yourself! Don’t be stingy to yourself, use money to get money and thank yourself later.

4. Cultivate healthy habits:
In 2025, you’ve started warming Eba by 3am again; you’re still sleeping away 14 hours of your life; your phone is still in your hands on that toilet seat, as it has been all day, with you scrolling on Tiktok; you’ve started calling your fitness coach to tell him/her that your landlord’s cat died? Please be serious. Do things differently this new year!

5. Build reasonable and healthy relationships:
You want to be the best version of yourself this year, and you’re still in company with the mediocre that led you to where you are now; you have no friends or community to call your own; you’ve made no connections in the corporate world? Weldone!

6. Give back to the community:
Don’t be an ingrate. After you must have achieved, give back to the society. It could be by adding value. Teach people and build a community from you soft skill, post good and content etc. I understand that it might not come from your heart, but it is very important to give back to the society. E get why!

I understand that this was quite violent, but you’ll thank me for it. So, you’re welcome!
