THINGS IN OAU THAT JUST MAKE SENSE

Welcome to OAU, the capital of chaos, beauty and everything in between. It is literally an entire ecosystem over here. The culture and aluta spirit are unmatched in all of Nigeria. Not everything works perfectly, but some things on Africa’s Most beautiful campus, they just make sense anyhow.

Let me show you.

1.      Spider: Yes! You heard right. The Spider building is home to the departments of Mechanical and Civil Engineering in OAU. The building is structured to look like a real-life spider. It truly is a sight to behold and should be one of the wonders of the world.

2.      The “social distancing”: The location of some places on campus are so far to the halls of residence. OAU will humble your crocs! What you start with a mind of “oh, it’s just a short walk” would turn you to the Children of Israel in the wilderness, before you even get to say jack. But hey, no one is complaining innit.

3.      The Aluta square: Someone said, “if SUB is the body, then Aluta square is the heart” and I couldn’t agree more. The Aluta square is the space with the statue directly in front of the students’ union building. It is not just any place, it represents history, real aluta spirit, protests, candlelight processions and pure cruise (the Kegites know how to make it go down).

4.      Motion ground: “aunty passport” “brother passport”. Don’t dare pass motion ground during the day, if you’ve not had anything to eat (you’ve been warned), because the hustle is real. And at night? The real OGs know. Laughs in self- deceit and forbidden fruits

5.      Natural history Museum: Someone said that buildings in OAU were not built; they were designed, and I concur because that building is a piece of art. Standing gorgeous like a pyramid dropped directly from Egypt and the old Yoruba empire structures, it definitely should be the 8th wonder of the world, no cap! Don’t even get me started on their intricately preserved butterflies & skeletons. In short, go and see for yourself.

6.      The Senate building: OAU’s senate building is said to be the tallest building in Osun state, Nigeria. She’s definitely a sight for sore eyes!

7.      The fleet of stairs: Sometimes I wonder if those Israel is filled with stairs because those Israeli architects said no peace for OAU students. Turn right, left and center, and you’re jumping one staircase. You can’t even be late to a class in peace because after running on those death traps, you’d start questioning your choices. Even the hostels were not spared.

8.      OAU students: You thought I was going to forget? If shege resistance was a course, then OAU has produced the most first-class graduates in Nigeria because they are so rugged. From the struggle to get water to finding network in odd places to the hostel conditions, y’all definitely deserve one Benz each.

The real MVPs

Summarily, not everything might be as you want it to be, but whenever that feeling kicks in, just remember one of these things that make sense in OAU. There are more places and things that make sense on this campus, but I'll leave that to you, in the Comments.
